I’ve had problems sleeping since I was young. When I was in high school, even after coming home late, I could not sleep easily and would wake up very early at around 5 a.m. I remember being so happy whenever I’d wake up at 7 a.m. I thought I was just a morning person.
When I moved to Australia in 2010, I still had nights when I had a hard time sleeping or was barely able to sleep. I had accepted that I would only get a maximum of 4 to 5 hours of sleep every night. Occasionally, when I got to sleep for 6 hours, I’d be happy.
In 2018, when my second child was 2 years old, I started to only be able to sleep around 1 to 2 hours a night, and it was taking a toll on me. My husband and I decided that I should move to another room while my girls slept with him. I went back to sleeping around 4 to 6 hours a night, although some nights I still had a hard time sleeping and was happy with just 2 hours of sleep. My doctor also prescribed sleeping tablets, which I would only take if I had to travel or had something very important to do the next day.
Sometime late last year, I started having severe insomnia. There was one night when I did not even get an hour of sleep, and this had never happened before. I saw daylight come through my window and felt like a zombie the next day. I decided to take half a sleeping pill occasionally and managed to sleep my usual 4 to 5 hours for a while.
At this time, I had been listening to Pastor Prince’s sermons for about 2 years and was loving them so much. Understanding grace was mind-blowing, and it really changed my life. I felt close to God in a way I never did before, and I finally understood why Jesus had to die on the cross. I requested all the monthly featured sermons and listened to them while driving and while doing housework. I also sent a prayer request to JPM for healing from insomnia.
One day, the severe insomnia happened again. For 3 consecutive nights, I didn’t sleep at all even after taking the sleeping pills. I knew something was wrong with me. I felt pain in my heart, chest, and body and had the worst headache ever. It felt like my head was about to crack because of the pain. I was so scared as I didn’t feel sleepy at all.
On the third night after not having slept for 72 hours, I was lying alone in my bedroom trying to calm down. Suddenly, I decided to place my Bible on my head as I lay down and closed my eyes to meditate on the Lord’s love for me. To my surprise, I felt something like heat being released from my head, and it felt so good. My headache was gone in 3 minutes, and I felt so much peace, lightness, and happiness in me that I’d never felt before. I just cannot explain the feeling, but I knew I was healed that very moment!
I woke my husband up and told him everything that had just happened. He told me to sleep with him and the children that night. As soon as I closed my eyes, I felt sleepy for the first time in 3 days. I was able to sleep that night and every night since. Thank You, Lord, for the gift of sleep every night!
