See Your Children the Way God Sees Them
Part 3 of 6 of Receive Your Breakthrough with God’s Hazon Visions.
I worry about my children, about their health, their studies, their future. What sorts of hazon visions can I hold on to for them?
Children have a very special place in our Lord’s heart. When the disciples tried to keep children away from our Lord to avoid bothering Him (Luke 18:15–16 NLT), Jesus stopped them and said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.”
So my friend, rest assured that the Lord wants your children blessed, protected, and well provided for more than you do. Start seeing your sons and daughters kept safe under the wings of the Almighty and surrounded by angels charged by the Lord Himself to watch over them (Ps. 91:4, 11). These are just some of the many hazon visions of all-round, 24/7 protection that you can find in one of my favorite psalms.
Then, in Psalm 128:3, there is a very powerful picture of family blessing: “Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house, your children like olive plants all around your table.” Keep this picture of your children in your heart and mind.
Why olive plants? Because an olive tree can keep perpetuating itself even when its trunk rots partially or dies. It is able to rejuvenate itself at its base, putting out new shoots from its roots. So see your children like olive plants, flourishing, hardy, resilient, and able to survive against all odds.
And from the olive plants, you get olive oil, a picture of the Holy Spirit in the Bible. See your children anointed and filled with the Holy Spirit. See them as set apart, and see that the work of their hands is anointed, that whatever they touch prospers. And because they are filled with the Holy Spirit, see your children flowing in His wisdom.
I always like to encourage parents to pray that their children will increase in “wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men” (Luke 2:52), just as Jesus did. Imagine Jesus as a child in Luke 2:40, “filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him,” then lay your hands on your children every day before bedtime or as they are leaving for school and envision them receiving these same blessings!
Whether things are going well with your children or if you are struggling with issues with them, maybe it’s a problem at school or they are in a rebellious phase, ask the Lord for His particular hazon vision for your child. The Lord might tell you, “Don’t just pray against the rebellion,” and go on to give you a vision of what is really plaguing your child. Maybe the real issue could be your child’s fear of failing in school, or it could be negative peer pressure or bullying in school. The Lord will speak to you about your child’s specific situation.
Other good pictures to hold in our hearts for our children can be found in Ephesians 3:14–19 and Isaiah 54:13 which says, “All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.”
Having Christ dwelling in our children’s hearts and for them to be rooted and grounded in His love so that they be filled with all the fullness of God (Eph. 3:14–19) is such an extremely powerful vision and prayer to pray over our children. It will ensure that our children can weather any storm in life and rise above fears that can cripple other young people (1 John 4:18).
